by Jordyn on January 11th, 2010
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
