Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Jordyn on October 2nd, 2012

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
