Hold em Poker : Semi-Bluffing and Defensive Gambling

by Jordyn on June 27th, 2013

Seems like most people are often talking about pre-flop method, so I would like to speak a bit about how I bet on right after the flop. Possibly I can help others, or maybe they have advice to improve my play.

I imagine that two of the most crucial plays soon after the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. That’s because these are the plays you produce when you havent hit a hand but you might have a excellent drawing hand. Its easy to play a hand when you flop a monster. But I believe that these two are the finest ways to bet on a drawing. Each one is bet depending on you competition(s) and your postion. So here’s how I wager on it, so tell me what you think.

Early Position – Tight Competitors:

A semi-bluff works fairly well in this position. Appear out wagering and if a tight player didn’t hit a hand he will most likely lay down, and if he is unsure you may perhaps get a call. But watch out, if that tight player comes back over the top it may possibly be time to have away.

Early Placement – Loose Competitors

That is were I like to try and do a defensive wager. Determine how numerous chips you might be willing to chance on your draw and bet. This really is usually a much lower wager than regular. It’s been my understanding that the loose player will usually just call a wager rather than re-raise. On the other hand, in the event you check to them, theyre more likely to throw in much more chips than your willing to pay.

Late Place – Tight Opponents

This is the best time to perform a semi-bluff, specially if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you’ll probaly pick up the pot now. If a gambler prior to has wager, you’ve to decide if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he’ll possibly go away since he was trying to steal the pot. When you think he does, effectively then it’s time to calculate your odds, and make a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.

Late Location – Loose Opponents

This one is really a bit tricky, simply because it is more difficult to put a loose player on a hand. And if your in late placement against loose gambler, chances are they’ve already bet. That is had been I usually decide to take a chance and come back more than the best of them and hope they don’t call, and if they do, properly then its time to wager. Odds are though even a loose player will go away in case you come back strong enough.

Don’t forget though that these are moves I only produce soon after the flop comes and I have a decent drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Possibly four to the flush or the open ended straight, for instance.
