Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Jordyn on April 11th, 2016

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
