Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Jordyn on June 4th, 2017
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might just be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
