No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
by Jordyn on September 12th, 2020
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
