Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha Hi-Lo begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in almost all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

Although it seems complex at first, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic subtleties of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low provides an overwhelming collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, and many battling for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to play Omaha/8.
