Web High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Jordyn on August 9th, 2021
Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
